The particulate problem is the one of the most
important environmental problems in Northern
Thailand. The variation of ambient concentrations
depends on both emissions and meteorological
conditions that vary with season. In this study,
seasonal variations of PM

10 concentrations in
Northern Thailand were investigated by analyzing
observed dataset during 2004-2008 from 7 monitoring
stations in Northern Thailand. The results show strong
seasonal variations of PM10 concentrations. The most
particulate problems in Northern Thailand were in
February and March, except lower North region.
Analysis of observed dataset found that the causes of
seasonal variation of PM10 concentrations in Northern
Thailand are not primarily caused by the
meteorological conditions, but rather by emission. Air
quality management should focus to control emission
during PM10 episodes in summer. Furthermore, the
investigation found that the major common source of
PM10 episodes in Northern Thailand is open burning
