การศึกษาวิจัยครั้งนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์ “พระราชปุจฉา” อย่างละเอียด และรอบด้าน เพื่อทำความเข้าใจลักษณะ บทบาทหน้าที่ พัฒนาการ และคุณค่าของพระราชปุจฉาในสังคมพระพุทธศาสนาที่มีพระมหากษัตริย์เป็นผู้ปกครองตั้งแต่สมัยพุทธกาล หลังพุทธกาล และในสังคมไทย การศึกษาพบว่า พระราชปุจฉามีความสำคัญในสองมิติคือ ประเพณีพระราชปุจฉา และวรรณคดีพระราชปุจฉา ประเพณีพระราชปุจฉามีพัฒนาการอย่างสืบเนื่อง ควบคู่กันไปกับบทบาท หน้าที่ในสังคมพระพุทธศาสนา กล่าวคือ ในสมัยพุทธกาลพระราชปุจฉามีนัยสำคัญต่อการสถาปนาพระพุทธศาสนา พระราชปุจฉาระหว่างพระมหากษัตริย์กับพระพุทธเจ้าและพระพุทธสาวกทำให้พระมหากษัตริย์หันมานับถือ และอุปถัมภ์พระพุทธศาสนาทำให้พระพุทธศาสนามั่นคง ประเพณีพระราชปุจฉายังมีความสำคัญต่อการเผยแผ่และสั่งสอนพระพุทธศาสนา เพราะเป็นกิจกรรมทางปัญญาที่สร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจในสารัตถะพุทธธรรม และเป็นการชำระพระพุทธศาสนาให้บริสุทธิ์ในสมัยหลังพุทธกาล ดังนั้นประเพณีพระราชปุจฉาจึงมีบทบาทหน้าที่ในการสืบทอดพระพุทธศาสนาให้มั่นคง พระราชปุจฉายังมีความสำคัญในด้านวรรณคดี กล่าวคือ วรรณคดีพระราชปุจฉา จัดเป็นประเภทหนึ่งที่มีลักษณะทางวรรณศิลป์ คือการใช้รูปแบบปุจฉา-วิสัชนาในการดำเนินเรื่อง และการเรียบเรียงข้อความ มีลักษณะเป็นร้อยแก้วอรรถาธิบาย สอดคล้องกับแนวคิดของวรรณคดีพระราชปุจฉาที่มุ่งสร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจที่ถูกต้องชัดเจนเกี่ยวกับสารัตถะทางพระพุทธศาสนาเป็นสำคัญ วรรณคดีพระราชปุจฉาจึงมีเอกภาพ สัมพันธภาพ และสารัตถะภาพเพื่อการสื่อสารอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ วรรณคดีพระราชปุจฉายังมีคุณค่าในฐานะวรรณคดีพระพุทธศาสนา วรรณคดีคำสอน และ วรรณคดีประวัติศาสตร์และสังคม พระราชปุจฉาจึงมีคุณค่าอย่างสมบูรณ์ทั้งในแง่ “ประเพณีพระราชปุจฉา” และ “วรรณคดีพระราชปุจฉา” This research aims to study Praratchapuccha, a Royal inquiry on Buddhist problems, in detail and all around the aspects to understand the nature, the role, the development and the value of Praratchapuccha in Buddhist Society governed by kings since the Buddha’s times to the period after the Buddha’s times and also the development of Praratchapuccha in Thai society. The study found 2 aspects of Praratchapuccha, the tradition of Praratchapuccha and the Praratchapuccha literature. The tradition of Praratchapuccha is a continuous development and having an important the role in the Buddhist society. In the Buddha’s times, Praratchapuccha was significant to the establishment of Buddhism. Since Praratchapuccha among kings, the Buddha and the his disciple makes the kings turned to respect and support Buddhism, the Buddhism then has resulted in stability. The tradition of Praratchapuccha is also important to preach and propagate Buddhism since it is considered an intellectual activity that brings an understanding of the Buddhist doctrine and it was also important to the purification of Buddhism after the Buddha’s times. Therefore, the tradition of Praratchapuccha has a significant role in the dissemination of Buddhism. In terms of literature, Praratchapuccha also plays an important role. The Collection of Praratchapuccha is considered one of the literary values since the style of Pucchā-vissajjanā (question-and-answer) format is used to proceed and the text is a commentary prose style consistent with the concept of literature aimed at creating a clear understanding of the essence of Buddhism. Thereby, the Praratchapuccha literature contains unity, coherence, and completion for the effective communication. The Praratchapuccha literature has value as a Buddhist literature, a didactic literature, and a social historical literature. Praratchapuccha is fully valued in aspects of both "the tradition of Praratchapuccha " and "the Praratchapuccha literature."
