The objectives of this study are aimed to studythe tourism development and the impact of tourism onlanduse and environment of Ko Samui, and also, thisstudy is airned to propose the guidelines and measuresto alleviate negative impacts within the study area. The study found out 4 of tourism development ofKo Samui, the first period was before the year 1970

the second was between the years 1970-1987

the thirdwas between the years 1982-1986

and the last wasbetween the years 1987 to the present. The tourismdevelopment in Ko Samui has given rise to landuseexpansion in the form of bungalows and hotelss, whiiethe expansion of the real estate that make use dtourism campaign spot during the fourth period. The impact can be classified into 4 categories:physical impact, i.e. soil, water and air resources

ecological impact, i,e. Iiving things on land andliving things in water, the impact an human use values,i.e. landuse and infrastructure development, and theImpact on quality of the values, economic and socialconditions, aesthetic, and recreation. The positive impacts are only the human usevalues and quality of the values, while the negativeimpacts happen in every aspect of landuse. The areaswith the negative impact are the shorelines around KoSamui, especially the area in the east of the islandsuch as Chaweng, - amai where ate the important sourcesof tourism. The area with less negative impact are inthe north of the island such as Maenam, Bangrak, andBophut, The inner and with mountains, forest, swamps,marshes, mangrove are also impacted by the tourismdevelopment The negative impact are very high in threecategories. They are landuse, infrastructures, economicand social conditons. According to Butler, Samui's tourism developmentis now at the stage of consolidation. if thedevelopment is not controlled, it will be develop tostage of stagnation and rejuvenation To alleviate and minimize the negative impact,the following measures are propose: i) zoning the areainto tourism development area

limit of tourismdevelopment area

conservation area and preservationarea ii) access control. For infrastructure issuggested to be improved it a concerning organization.The infrastructures are road system, waste collection,waste water treatment and water supply system.
