| บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย | : | Dabhol (Maharashtra, India) has been described as a maritime trade centre in the medieval period texts of the several Arabic and European travellers. The town is situated at the confluence of the river Vashishthi and the Arabian Sea on the Konkan coast. A beautiful large mosque with splendid dome and minarets is situated right on the coast. Oral history refers this mosque as the landmark point for the ships to enter in the Dabhol creek An onshore exploration along the Maharshtra coast revealed the remains of an ancient jetty and four stone anchors at Dabhol. Stone anchors were retrieved from the creek during a dredging operation for the channel. These anchors are of the Indo-Arabia type and dated to the medieval period. A temple of Loyaleshwar has an Iron anchor of British Admiralty type, which is being worshipped. |
