The purposes of this descriptive research were: 1) to study the relationships between personal psychological factors and self-directed learning, 2) to study the relationships between social factors - and self-directed learning, and 3) to investigate the predictive factors of self-directed learning. The samples consisted of 82 the first-year nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Udonthani. The data were collected by using questionnaires on self-directed learning personal psychologicgl factors and social factors. Scatistical methods that used analyze data were pearsois Product Moment Correlation Coefficient ahd Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis., The results of this research were as follows. The personal psychological factors: achievement motivation, attitude toward self-directed learning, and self efficacy had positive statistically significance correlation to nursing students' self-directed learning (p< .05). The social factors: learning environment, relationship between teachers and students, and relationship between students and friends had positive statistical significance correlation to nursing students' self-directed learning (p< .05). The personal psychological, factors: achievement motivation (motivation) and attitude toward self-directed learning (attitude) all together were the co-predictors of nursing students' self-directed learning that could be predictable 60.3 of percentage with statistical significance (p< .05). The results of formulating prediction equations of achievement motivation and attitude toward self-directed learning in the forms of raw scores (Y) and standard scores (Z) were: Y = 1.111 + 0.388 motivation + 0.291 attitude; Z = 0.508 motivation + 0.371 attitude. These findings suggested that the frrst-year nursing students with achievement motivation will tend to be self-directed learners, which in turn, lead to the positive attitude toward self-directed learning.
