โครงการ “ก๊กมินตั๋งพลัดถิ่นในประเทศไทย...ลมหายใจสุดท้ายที่ยังรอวันกลับบ้าน” มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อต่อยอดการศึกษาจากโครงการเดิมและผลิตสารคดีเชิงข่าว โดยผู้ศึกษาได้ศึกษาข้อมูลที่เกี่ยวข้องจากแหล่งข้อมูลต่างๆ ก่อนลงพื้นที่สัมภาษณ์ผู้นำชุมชนและอดีตทหารก๊กมินตั๋ง จำนวน 59 คน รวม 5 หมู่บ้าน ในจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ได้แก่ หมู่บ้านถ้ำง้อบ อดีตฐานบัญชาการกองทัพที่ 3 ของนายพลลีเหวินฮ่วน หมู่บ้านผาแดง หมู่บ้านสินชัย และหมู่บ้านอรุโณทัย หมู่บ้านลูกของบ้านถ้ำง้อบที่มีความสัมพันธ์ใกล้ชิดเป็นลำดับต้น รวมทั้งได้สังเกตการณ์เบื้องต้นที่บ้านพักทหารชราในบ้านใหม่หนองบัวด้วย ส่วนจังหวัดเชียงราย ได้แก่ ดอยแม่สลองหรือบ้านสันติคีรี อดีตฐานบัญชาการกองทัพที่ 5 ของนายพลต้วนซีเหวิน ข้อมูลที่ได้เป็นข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับประวัติศาสตร์บอกเล่า ชีวประวัติโดยสังเขป ปัญหาการขาดการติดต่อกับญาติในสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีนและการกลับไปเยี่ยมบ้าน ที่ทหารแทบทุกคนบอกตรงกันว่าการได้กลับบ้านเกิดสักครั้งก่อนสิ้นลมยังคงเป็นความฝันสูงสุดในชีวิต ผู้ศึกษาได้ค้นหาและคัดเลือกแหล่งข่าวเป้าหมายที่ต้องการเดินทางกลับบ้านในประเทศจีนเพื่อติดตามไปผลิตสารคดีเชิงข่าวตรงตามเป้าหมายสูงสุดที่ตั้งไว้แต่แรก การค้นหาและคัดเลือกเป็นไปด้วยความยากลำบาก เพราะผู้ศึกษาต้องกำหนดเกณฑ์คุณสมบัติสำคัญต่างๆ ของเป้าหมายไว้ เพื่อป้องกันปัญหาที่อาจตามมาขณะปฏิบัติงานในประเทศจีน จนในที่สุดผู้ศึกษาได้พบอดีตทหารก๊กมินตั๋งที่มีคุณสมบัติครบเกณฑ์ทุกข้อคือ เกาฉวอหลิง หรือนายสุรชัย แซ่เกา จากหมู่บ้านอรุโณทัยและได้ร่วมเดินทางไปยังบ้านเกิดของเขาในเทศมณฑลหยงเต๋อ มณฑลยูนนาน สาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีนในช่วงเทศกาลเช็งเม้ง เทศกาลที่มีความสำคัญที่สุดต่อชาวจีนทุกคนและมีความหมายที่สุดในการกลับบ้าน และยังได้พบกับอดีตทหารก๊กมินตั๋งอีกคนหนึ่งชื่อ หย่างเจิ้งยี่ จากหมู่บ้านมุเครือ ซึ่งเดินทางล่วงหน้ามายังเทศมณฑลหยงเต๋อเองก่อนแล้ว ผู้ศึกษาได้เก็บข้อมูลเชิงลึกเกี่ยวกับชีวประวัติและปัญหาการขาดการติดต่อกับญาติของแหล่งข่าวรวมทั้งบันทึกภาพถ่าย ตามแผนการทำงานที่วางไว้อย่างยืดหยุ่นและยังได้รวบรวมข้อมูลวัฒนธรรมยูนนาน ประเด็นรองตามวัตถุประสงค์โครงการที่ได้สัมผัสและเก็บข้อมูลตลอดระยะเวลาการลงพื้นที่ทั้งประเทศไทยและจีนไว้ในรายงานฉบับนี้ด้วย ผลพวงของสงครามกลางเมืองจีนอันโหดร้ายยังคงทิ้งบาดแผลเจ็บปวดร้าวลึกในความทรงจำและตัวตนของเกาฉวอหลิง ญาติฝั่งจีน ตลอดจนทหารก๊กมินตั๋งพลัดถิ่นทุกคนที่จะยังคงอยู่ต่อไปจนวาระสุดท้ายของชีวิต เช่นเดียวกับการดำรงอยู่ของปัญหาการกลับบ้านและถูกตัดขาดกับญาติในแผ่นดินเกิด ทุกสิ่งยังดำเนินไปท่ามกลางกลิ่นอายสงครามเย็นระหว่างจีนและไต้หวันที่แม้มีแนวโน้มจะจางไป แต่คงยังไม่หมดสิ้นในเร็ววัน ผู้ศึกษาได้วิเคราะห์รวมรวมและเรียบเรียงข้อมูลพร้อมภาพถ่าย ผลิตเป็นสารคดีเชิงข่าวภาษาอังกฤษและผลักดันจนได้รับการตีพิมพ์ในสื่อระดับภูมิภาคเอเชีย คือ นิตยสาร Asia News ฉบับวันที่ 26 February - 11 March 2010 ในคอลัมน์ Special report ซึ่งเป็นสื่อระดับภูมิภาคเอเชียที่มีพันธมิตรสื่อและครอบคลุมพื้นที่ถึง 18 ประเทศ รวมทั้งผู้อ่านจำนวนมากในจีนแผ่นดินใหญ่และไต้หวัน ตรงตามเป้าหมายที่วางไว้ รวมทั้งยังมีโครงการตีพิมพ์ซ้ำในสื่อต่างๆทั้งภายในและภายนอกประเทศ เพื่อสื่อสารเรื่องราวความเลวร้ายในผลพวงของสงครามนี้ไปยังผู้คนในสังคมให้กว้างมากที่สุดเท่าที่ผู้ศึกษาพึงทำได้ ด้วยความหวังให้สังคมเกิดความตระหนักถึงคุณค่าและความสำคัญของคำว่าสันติภาพขึ้นบ้างในโลกที่ยังเต็มไปด้วยสงคราม The Exiled Kuomintang in Thailand, Waiting till Their Last Breath to Return Home project is aimed to continue the study from previous project and to produce the news-oriented documentary. The researcher has studied the information from many types of resources before getting into the field work to interview a community leader and 59 former exiled Kuomintang soldiers from 5 villages in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces. Those villages in Chiang Mai are Baan Tam-Ngob, a former 3rd route army’s headquarter of General Li Wenhuan, Baan Pa-Daeng, Baan Sinchai and Baan Arunotai, these three villages are the sub-villages of Baan Tam-Ngob where it has a close relationship in primary. This is including the elementary observation at old soldiers care home in Baan Mai Nongbua. About the field working in Chiang Rai, it is taking place in Doi Mae Salong or Baan Santi Kiri, a former headquarter of General Duan Xiwen’s 5th route army. The project led to a oral history and collection of brief biography. A problem of loosing contact with family members in People's Republic of China and returning to the motherland that almost all of the former soldiers gave matched answer that returning homeland just once before the end of their life is the lifetime last supreme dream. The researcher searched and selected the subjects who wanted to return home to their motherland as to follow and produce the news-oriented documentary, according to the initially aim that have been determined. The search and selection process has been going with difficulty because the researcher has to define the regulations and essential qualifications of the subjects to avoid the problems that could follow while the field work is carried out in China. Eventually, the researcher found a former exiled Kuomintang soldier who best fit every defined qualifications. That is Mr. Gao Chuoling or Surachai Saegao from Arunotai village. The researcher joined the journey back to his motherland in Yongde Municipality, Yunnan in People's Republic of China during Qingming festival which is crucially significant for all Chinese people and the most meaningful time to return home. The researcher also meet another exiled Kuomintang named Yang Zhengyi from Mu Krue-ah village, who traveled to Yongde Municipality beforehand by himself. The researcher collected the intensive information for the biography and documented problems in losing in touch with subject’s relatives. This is included taking photographs according to the plan that had been set up with some flexibility. According to the secondary purpose of this project, cultural information of Yunnan that the researcher has experienced throughout the period of this field work, both in Thailand and China, was gathered and put together inside this report. The subsequent effects of the ruthless Chinese Civil War have left deep traumatic wounds in Gao Chuoling’s memory, his relatives in China, as well as every exiled Kuomintang soldiers. These wounds will always remain until the end of their lives. Same as the existence of the problems of returning to motherland and being disconnected with the relatives in the homeland, everything will be going within the cold war atmosphere between China and Taiwan, even though it is tending to fade away but will not be completely disappear in the near future. The researcher has collected, arranged, and analyze data together with photos and produced an English language news documentary, which has been published in a regional news magazine, Asia News (Special report, 26 February - 11 March 2010). This is a major Asian regional publication with extensive media alliances, circulating in 18 countries, and enjoys a large readership in Mainland China and Taiwan. Hence, all objectives set forth for this research project have been achieved. Moreover, this news documentary has been published repeatedly in many publications both domestic and international. The tragic result of war has been demonstrated and communicated to as many members of society as the researcher could possibly reach. Hopefully, society would become more aware of the value and importance of peace in a world filled with war.
