Associations amongst emotional intelligence (EI), personality and the time to respond to questionnaire items were tested in a sample of 50 participants using self-report emotional intelligence and personality computer-administered tests. No connection, of any significance or in any direction, was found between EI and intelligence. The correlation between Extraversion and its response latency replicated the finding of Akrami et al’s (2007) of a quadratic inverted-U trend. Openness was also found to be negatively related to its response latency but linearly. However, no relationship was not found between EI and its response latencies. Possible relationships between EI and personality were also examined and Emotional Stability, Extraversion and Agreeablenss were the only Big Five personality factors that correlated with EI. Lastly, from the findings of this study, it is strongly suggested for the further research into the topic of these individual characteristics or qualities and into the improvement of precision in measures of EI and personality scales.
