The Behavioural Intervention program for youth with conduct disorder is currently being conducted by a team led by Professor Kevin Ronan at CQUniversity, Rockhampton. This project which commenced in September 2009 is in partnership with the local Youth Justice Services, funded by the Department of Communities initially for 12 months from September 2009 with additional funding anticipated September 2010 - June 2011 (see Letter of Variation). The project has currently been operational for just over 12 months. The program has accepted families that represent current or finished treatment cases (n = 16) and waitlist control cases (n = 9). Given the total number accepted, the anticipated numbers in each condition by the end of the ‘bridging funding’ phase (June 2011) look to be the following: Treatment (n = 25-27) and Waitlist (n = 10-12). Of the 57 initially referred, 28 families were not accepted into the program over this 12 month period. Of this number 23 did not meet the criteria, 2 moved interstate, 2 declined and 1 family was referred to another agency owing to capacity limitations. Initial results are quite promising with all families showing significant growth with regard to major outcomes and family goals targeting the young person’s conduct disorder-related problems, based on regular collection of data during the treatment delivery. Additionally, regular administration of another measure, the Session Rating Scale (SRS) that assesses the level of family satisfaction with intervention services indicates high levels of satisfaction (average rating of 9.5 on a 10 point scale) with regard to how the program intervention is being conducted and that it is meeting the needs and expectations of families. Other pre-post data, including offending data, is forthcoming. For the offending data, despite several 6 requests since June 2010 (when approval was received from QPS), it has been delayed. However, based on recent discussions, the data now look to be forthcoming soon. Once gathered, that data will be analysed and forwarded. Overall, the findings to date prepare the groundwork for further evaluation of program outcomes, including reducing criminogenic risk, evaluation of cost savings, and the dissemination of this program into usual service settings. In addition, we are currently writing up the pilot cases as part of a manuscript for submission to a refereed, scholarly journal. We also plan on reporting on individual case studies for an anticipated September 2011 final report (see Letter of Variation deliverables) to highlight various issues related to the families and young persons whom we are working with, including various types of positive outcomes achieved
