| บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย | : | "This study examined the relationship between perfectionism, the personality trait of setting excessively high standards for personal performance (Stoeber, Feast & Hayward, 2009), and help-seeking for depression. It was hypothesised that maladaptive perfectionists may differ from other participants in their likelihood to seek help for depression, their tendency to delay help seeking and their strength of preference for non-face-to-face help for depression. Adult male (n = 35) and female (n = 55) participants (n = 91) were identified as non-perfectionist (n = 54), adaptive perfectionist (n = 12) or maladaptive perfectionist (n = 21) based upon scores on the Almost Perfect Scale-Revised (Slaney et al., 2001). Likelihood of seeking help for depression and strength of preference for professional, nonprofessional and non-face-to-face sources was measured using the General Help-Seeking Questionnaire (GHSQ; Wilson, Deane, Ciarrochi & Rickwood 2005). Participants tendency to delay help seeking was measured using a one item self-report tool. Results indicated that (1) maladaptive perfectionists were more likely to delay seeking help than other participants and (2) differences were not found in participants likelihood to seek-help for depression or in strength of preference for non-face-to-face help based on perfectionist type. Incidentally however, it was found that strength of preference for informal help sources was lower for maladaptive perfectionists than other perfectionist types. The implications of these findings are discussed, along with directions for future research"--Abstract. |
