Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics [(Bi0.5Na0.485La0.005)(Fe0.01Ti0.983O3); FNLT] have been prepared by the conventionally mixed oxide method. The calcination was performed at the temperatures of 800 oC for 2 h. The FNLT thin sheets were fabricated using Doctor blade tape casting with Duramax B-1000 as a binder for aqueous system. In addition, the thin sheets were also fabricated using pressing technique for comparison. The FNLT specimens were sintered at 1100oC for 2 h. The properties of dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric were determined. It was found that either thin FNLT pellets or FNLT tapes presented almost identical values of the relative permittivity (665). The piezoelectric coefficients (d33) of sintered pellets and thin FNLT tapes were 155 and 139 pC/N, respectively. And FNLT pellets and thin FNLT tapes obtained the electromechanical coupling factors in thickness (kt) mode of 46 and 31%, respectively.
