Objectives: To investigate whether the Doppler flow of the middle cerebral artery (MCA), umbilical artery (UA) and cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) in pregnancy with pre-eclampsia demonstrated the correlation with perinatal outcomes. Methods: 37 cases of mild pre-eclampsia and 35 cases of severe preeclampsia pregnant women were enrolled in this study. Abnormal pulsatility index (PI) of MCA was defined as PI lesser than 5th percentile for gestational age while abnormal UA PI was defined as PI greater than 95th percentile. Abnormal CPR was defined as ratio lesser than 1.08. Abnormal Doppler flows were analyzed for the correlation with perinatal outcomes. Results: In abnormal MCA PI cases, there was significantly higher rate of NICU admission in both mild and severe pre-eclampsia group (P = 0.049 and 0.006, respectively). In abnormal CPR cases, there was higher rate of NICU admission in only severe pre-eclampsia group (P = 0.008). While there was no statistic significantly difference of NICU admission in cases with abnormal UA PI. Conclusions: The present study showed the correlation of abnormal MCA PI and NICU admission in both mild pre-eclampsia and severe pre-eclampsia cases. While the correlation of abnormal CPR and NICU admission was founded in only cases with severe preeclampsia.
