The article discusses demi-democracy and the market economy by taking an example of Thailand. The ideal state of development, for many, is the existence of a democratic form of government and a capitalist economy. To be sure, it is apparent that such a juxtaposition is derived from the development pattern of Western European countries most notably England and their kin-cultured units spinning off from the motherland including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. As such, economic development in a capitalist system under a democracy is by necessity Western-biased. It is also assumed and even evangelised to be the ideal politico-economic system which many countries should emulate. The period from 1960 to 1970 saw an increase in the degree of urbanization. Population in municipal areas in Bangkok increased and the municipal area itself generally expanded. Meanwhile, the number of households engaging in agriculture and the number of economically active population (11 years old and over) in agriculture generally decreased. This increase in the degree of urbanization led to other changes, in housing, occupation, services, etc., in the urban areas especially Bangkok
