The purpose of this research was to create a synthesis of Sociolinguistics researches conducted at Thai universities in 1977 - 1990. A total of 243 researches was conducted. Findings reveal that there were 243 researches in 4 fields : 178 researches in Language Planning, 35 researches in Language ad Culture, 25 researches in Language and Society and 5 researches in Language and attitude. Researches in Language Planning ranked nighest in number

studies a phonological system of minority language and Thai dialects. Researches in Language and attitude were few in number and were about attitude to standard language and foreign language. There was a close relationship among researches in the 4 fields of Sociolinguistics, that was, language use was very much influenced by the speakers culture, attitude and other social factors such as sex, age - group, profession and up bringing. For language planning there had been a tendency to make everyone use standard Thai as media of communication for the sake of the countrys unity.
