Women of reproductive age in rural areas are one of the most important target groups of family planning IEC activities. This study attempts to determine the influence of womens group activities on contraceptive use among women of reproductive age in rural areas. Secondary data from the survey by the National Academy of Politics, Hanoi, were used for the analysis. The sample size was 567 married women of reproductive age in rural areas. Bivariate analysis with chi-square test, regression analysis and logistic regression technique were used to analyse the data. The sample of women was concentrated at the age under 35 years and the mean age of respondents was almost 30 years old. Majority of respondents finished only lower secondary school and had small family size with two children. The women had a medium level of family planning knowledge. The contraceptive prevalence rate using modern methods was 58.6 percent. All of three hypotheses were supported by bivariate and multivariate analysis. The findings showed that womens group activities strongly affected family planning knowledge and contraceptive use. Women s groups seeemed to be suitable forms of communication in family planning IEC activities. Family planning programs should focus on developing and stimulating womens group activities in rural areas as an important part of family planning IEC activities in rural areas as an important part of family planning IEC activities.
