A problem of commodity management was examined in Community Hospitals,Phatthalung Province. With regard to solving this problem and to develop a process in supply department, an appropriate model of the supply department was constructed by this researcher. The research design was a quasi- experimental research, non-equivalence control group design . This researcher applied the best principles of management, hospital management, commodity management and others which interlace with all activities of this model. The model was implemented for a period of three months in an experimental area. Khoachaison Hospital [Phatthalung Province] was selected to be an experimental area, Parkpayoon Hospital [Phatthalung Province] was chosen as a comparative area. Performance before and after the experiment was measured by requisition rate, rapidity requirement rate, consumption per bed rate. Satisfactions and problems with in the executives and the operators, and utilizer opinions were also included. As a result, requisition rate was increased but rapidity requirement rate and consumption per bed rate were decreased. The executives, operators and utilizers satisfaction were more satisfied with commodity performance [P=0.0465 P=0.0147 and P=0.0005]. They [The executives, the operators and the utilizers] felt that the problem of commodity management was decreased CP=0.0011 P=0.0219 and P=0.0007]. These results show that this new supply department model is suitable for an experimental area and more effectiveness than the old one . The implementation was found successful as key person in the experimental area were enthusiastic and participated in every activity of the new model, and the researcher emphasized preparation, evaluation and solving of problem during the implementation with using management by participation strategies. The researcher made a general guideline to apply this model for the development of any other community hospital to improve their effectiveness.
