The main purpose of this research was to study factors affecting job performance in administration, service, technical and co-ordination of chiefs of the social medicine department in regional and general hospitals. Four major categories of factors were chosen for the study : personal status, working experience, workload, and work in centives. A total of 207 individuals from three ralated groups

chiefs of the social medicine department, heads of the health promotive section, and hospital directors from 69 regional and general hospitals, were randomly selected and mailed questionnaires. There were 201 completed questionnaires (97.1 percent) returned for statistical analysis. The findings indicated that the majority of the social medicine departments chiefs rated their own overall job performance fairly, while most of the hospital directors and the health promotive section heads rated the job performance of the social medicien departments chiefs good in administration, service, and co-prdomatopm but fair in the technical aspect. When comparisons between various aspects of the job performance were made, significant statistical differences at 0.05 level were present among the three groups. The relationships between selected factors and the job preformance of the social medicine departments chiefs, showed a positive correlation at the significant statistical level of 0.05 between the administrative aspect and the individuals age, work experience (number of years in the position), number of working staff in the department, and other hygiene-motivation factors. The service aspect was also found to have a positive correlation with the number of working staff and with other hygiene-motivation factors, but had no correlation with the length of work experience. The technical aspect was found to have a positive correlation with age, work experience (number of years in the position), size of the hospital, the number of working staff, and other hygiene-motivation factors. Ragarding the co-ordination aspect, a positive relationship with age, work experience and other hygiene-motivation factors was present at the significant level of 0.05. With respect to the result of a multi-variate regression analysis to identify factors used to predict the job performance of the social medicien department chiefs, it was discovered that age and motivation were the most reliable, with a predictive capacity of 23.88 percent. Then, the equation for predicting the social medicine department chiefs job performance would be 0.17847 + 0.17032 (motivation factors) + 0.1171 (age).
