| บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย | : | The experimental drying of 5,620 kg. of R.D. 21 paddy with low flow-rate ambient air in a small wooden farm storage barn which had been modified to serve the drying as well as storage function at the same time was conducted in Chai-nat province, Central of Thailand, during the crop-year 1987/88. The overall objective of the study is to develop an appropriate paddy air drying technique for Thai farmers in order to decrease harvest losses and improve milling yields and rice quality. The project began with the studying and selection of and appropriate drying technique and strategy from the study of Soponronnarit on drying in bulk storage of high moisture grains in the kingdom of Thailand <10>. Then, the designing of the selected drying system and equipmints were made. Next, the designed equipments were procured, fabricated and installed to the existing barn, and after the installation of the drying equipments had been finished the procurement of the experimental paddy was performed. Later, the experimental paddy drying was conducted in the beginning of February 1988 and completed with in the same month which took about 17 days long of drying. After that, the dried-paddy samples were tested for the quality in the rice-laboratoty at the Agricultural Engineering Division,Department of Agriculture, and finally the study was concluded. The project can be summarized that the method of paddy drying with low flow-rate ambient-air in farm-storage barn is very interesting to rice-farmers. From the study, milling and germination qualities of the barn-dried paddy are much improved when comparing with the practical sun-drying method. Also, plenty of paddy losses in fields are expected to be reduced. The drying of paddy consumes less electrical energy and different lots of paddy can be dried separately in the same batch. The investment of the system (5-6 tons of paddy) even too expansive for Thai-farmers, but gives quick return with in about 2 years more. The disadvantages of the system are only high moisture gradient that occurred at the top and bottom paddy depths and long drying time for each batch, but those problems are not so significant for samll scale farmers. The experimental drying with paddy harvested in wet season and other agricultural economic crops for that the existing system be used efficiently should also be the subject of further research. |
