Papaya (Carica papaya L.) seeds with 9.5% initial moisture content were kept in paper bags, sealed polyethylene bags, and vacuum aluminum foil bags at room temperature (25-35 degree C), 15, 10, and 5 degree C for 12 months. The germination percentages, accelerated aging test, field emergence test, and germination index of the seeds packed in the polyethylene and aluminum foil bags at all temperature levels were higher than those packed in the paper bags. The seeds kept at room temperature were deteriorated faster than those at 5, 10, and 15 degree C. Papaya seeds with 9-10, 7-8, and 4-5% initial moisture content were then packed in vacuum aluminum foil bags at room temperature, 15, 10, and 5 degree C for 12 months. The germination percentages and accelerated aging test remained high but the seeds with an initial moisture content of 4-5 and 7-8% were better than those with a 9-10% moisture content. The storability of the seeds at 5, 10, and 15 degree C tended to be better than those at room temperature.
