Procurement of construction materials is an essential part of a construction system which requires considerable attention from a project manager. It could bear significant effects on the construction works in terms of contruction time, budget and quality of the project. Detailed information on procurement of portland cement, reinforcement steel, coarse and fine aggregates from 48 construction projects in Southern part of Thailand, extracted from questionaires, has been studied, then analysed and comparaed with information from 10 construction projects in Bangkok. The study reveals that there are some shortages of portland cement and reinforecement steel during the year. While the supplies of coarse and fine aggregates from local sources are adequate. Major manufacturing and distributing sources of portland cement are in the south. However reinforecement steel has to be purchased from Bangkok. Portland cement and reinforecement steel cost more than those in Bangkok, but coarse and fine aggregates cost less. Transportation of these materials is mainly by trucks. Slippery roads caused by rain presents main problem to material hauling, other problems include diversity in topography condition in some part of the roads . Materials are usually delivered varying within 1 week after an order has been placed according to type of materials.
