Three payapa varieties were combined in a diallel cross series to obtain information on combining ability by Griffings Method1 Model 1 and heterosis expressed in the F(,1) . Fourteen characters considered under this investigation were days to flowering , position of the first flower on the stem, circumference around the trunk when the first flower was borned, position of the first fruit, number of node from the ground up to the first fruit, number of fruit per crop per plant, fruit weight, fruit length, fruit width, % of cavity size , %TSS , flesh firmness, flesh thickness, and number of seeds per fruit. General combining abilities were significantly measured for all characters studied. Significant specific combining abilities were measured for all characters except the number of fruit per crop per plant and number of seeds per fruit. Significant difference between reciprocal crosses were measured indicating maternal effect in fruit weight. The hybrids showed average heterosis over the mid parent for days to flowering, height of the first flower, height of the first fruit, number of node from the ground to the first fruit position, fruit weight, fruit length, fruit width, % cavity size, %TSS, flesh firmness and flesh thickness.
