This descriptive study was conducted to describe body image among postoperative hand injured patients. Subjects were sixty-one hand injured patients selected according to the criteria who received surgical treatment at Huashan Hospital in Shanghai. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire which composed of demographic data form and body image scale (BIS). The body image scale was developed by researcher based on Schilders (1989) definition and literature review. Three domains of body image scale consisted of hand appearance, hand function, and others reaction. The content validity was assessed by both Thai and Chinese nursing and therapeutic specialists. Internal consistency reliability of .84 was obtained by means of Cronbachs coefficient alpha. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis. The findings of this study revealed that the body image score of subjects ranging from 6.67 to 13.79 with the mean of 9.58 and the standard deviation of 2.04. Thirty-three subjects or 54.06 percent had low score of body image while twenty-eight subjects or 45.94 percent had high score. The score of perception of hand function showed the lowest among three domains while perception of others reaction showed the highest.
