| บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย | : | The purpose of this study was to examine the state of the problem of sexual harassment, the forms of sexual harassment, the adjustment and stress-coping mechanism used by all 775 female Registered Nurses who are licensed to practice in the Nursing Services, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The data was analyzed by SPSS for Windows in terms of percentage, arithmetic mean and standard deviation. The result of a focus group discussion was collected for descriptive data. The findings were as follows: 1. The state of the problem of sexual harassment in the hospital: 68 % of nurses had heard that there was sexual harassment in the hospital, 78 % of nurses had never seen sexual harassment but 22 % of nurses had seen sexual harassment in the hospital and 58 % of nurses had direct experience of sexual harassment. The enabling factors for sexual harassment were the physical factor (not enough lighting on pathway, too much new construction) and the security factor wasnt strict enough (lack of screening of people who comes in and out of the hospital, open traffic system). 2. Types of sexual harassment: All types of direct sexual harassment were found in the hospital such as sexual crude language, uncomfortable touch, crude and/or offensive sexual remarks and attempt to establish a romantic sexual relationships with the exception of sexual coercion for sexual intercourse. The most frequent forms of harassment as crude, offensive sexual symbols followed by unwanted sexual attention and jokes. All forms were at low level. 3. When nurses suffered from sexual harassment, denial was the most frequent forms of adjustment mechanism. Problem-Focused Coping and Emotion-Focused Coping were the most frequent forms of coping behaviors used by the harassed nurses and were at an moderate level while the other Coping was at low level. |
