The research aims to focus on the complaintscolumn appearing in 3 newspapers, namely Kao-Sod,Thai-Rath and Siam-Rath by content analysis over a spanof one year from January1, 1997 - December 31, 1997 aswell as interviewing columnists. Studies of the contents reveal the following: 1. Spectrum of complainers and agenciesresponding with explanations. It is found that thereare more men complaints than women with the greaternumber living in Bangkok Metropolis.The agenciesresponding with explanations are mostly governmentagencies and state enterprises. 2. Those targeted by complainers are mostlyprivate persons, private organizations and governmentagencies and state enterprises. 3. Problems of communications, traffic and publicutility management, and problems related to legalpolitical issues stand out among the subjects tocomplaints. There were also letters rejected by newspaper asnot fit for the publication as they generally coversubjects detrimental to national security, the religionand the monarchy. Letters containing personal mattersthat do not serve public interests were also rejected. Results of this research and also based oninterviews with columnists who stated that selectionsof letter for publication rest with significance ofsubjects, problems requiring urgent solution, spacelimitations, and current issues of interest to the readers.
