| บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย | : | a) Selection of two sites, respectively slopes, in the Kohong mountain range near HatYai, Songkhla Province, which have to be accessible during the study. b) Detailed investigation and description of the near surface soils and sediments. c) Selecting up to five locations where shallow drilling or trenching will be carried out in order to take soil and sediment samples down to the bedrock. At each location a complete sample record will be taken down to the bedrock if possible, depending on the slope structure and depth. d) The complete sample record will be used to determine the structure and geometry of the near–surface layers, with a macroscopic description of the pore size and distribution as well as the open pathways. From the complete samples of all location a geological model of the subsurface will be drawn, with composition number and depth of layers. e) From each layer two to three samples will be taken for further analysis of the physical properties in the laboratory, including bulk density, porosity and permeability, respectively hydraulic conductivity. The first parameter will be determined from the mass and volume; the later two parameters will be measured with a porosimeter and permeameter at the Faculty of Engineering, PSU. f) Then additional samples will be taken for the measurement of electrical resistivity and compressional and shear wave velocities at various saturation levels, from complete dry to complete water saturated, at least 5 to 10 different levels. Equipment for both measurements is available at the Geophysics Research Center, PSU. g) Establishing empirical relationships for 1) electrical resistivity versus water saturation of different soil and sediment layers, 2) Compressional wave velocities versus water saturation of different soil and sediment layers, 3) Shear wave velocities versus water saturation of different soil and sediment layers. h) Using the seismic velocities and density values calculating the mechanical strength parameter, Young’s Modulus, Shear Modulus, Bulk Modulus, and Poisson’s ratio, in order to understand slope failure mechanisms in relation to water saturation for the specific study site. i) Report writing and publishing |
