The A. ebrateutus was extracted in boiling water with 0.7-1.3% yields. The antimicrobial activity of A. ebrateutus aqueous extract has been screened using agar diffusion method. A. ebracteutus aqueous extract showed inhibitory effect on growth of S. aureus ATCC 25923, S. epidermidis ATCC 12228, L. plantarum ATCC 14917, K. pneumoniae ATCC 10031 and P. vulgaris ATCC13315. The MICs and MBCs of A. ebracteutus has been evaluated using agar dilution and broth macro dilution methods. The MICs and MBCs of A. ebracteutus aqueous extract are in the range of 1-2 and 2-4 g L^-1, respectively. In conclusion, A. ebracteutus aqueous extract showed good antimicrobial activity against nosocomial pathogen and skin infection bacteria at low concentrations. This might supported the used of A. ebracteutus to treat nosocomial infection and skin infections. © 2009 Academic Journals Inc.
