Nursing Audit or Traumatic Care Improvement : Khon-Kaen HospitalAccident is one of the most important problems of public health causing deaths and disabilities followed by loss of human, economic and social resources. The Khon-Kaen Hospital had implemented the Project of Trauma Audit for Hospital Care Improvement during April 1997 to August 1998. The project was determined to develop the nurse’s guideline of caring patients injured by accidents and to assess care quality delivered to the patients in accordance with the guideline. The guideline was developed through literature review and consultation with surgeons, nurse lecturers and experienced nurses. The committee for improving care to accidental cases was established so as to develop the nurse’s guideline. The evaluation in accordance with the developed guideline showed the significant drop of preventable death rate (P<0.05) by 2.1%, compared between the rate of 1994 and that of 1997. The nurses achieved 23 categories of standard operation procedures out of the 28 categories (80% attained).
