| บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย | : | The aim of the current study is to add to the sparse literature concerning the relationship between personality variables and the use of the social networking site Facebook. Self-reported measurements of the Big Five dimensions of personality (John et al., 2008), loneliness, shyness, narcissism, and satisfaction with life were collected in the form of an online survey. Participants (n=207) also completed a Facebook questionnaire, assessing their usage of, and attitude towards, Facebook. Pearson’s correlation coefficient, factor analysis, and a regression model were implemented. Whilst none of the hypotheses were found to be significant, strong positive correlations were observed between satisfaction with life and number of Facebook friends, as well as number of photos the individual was ‘tagged’ (marked) in. Further positive correlations were found between extraversion and number of friends, and negative correlations were noted between levels of shyness, number of friends, and number of photos tagged in. Six factors were extracted from the data, relating to willingness to communicate, overall satisfaction with Facebook, time devoted to Facebook, sociability on Facebook, privacy concerns, and involvement with Facebook. The personality variables were not found to predict willingness to communicate or involvement on Facebook. Increased agreeableness predicted high satisfaction with Facebook, whilst less time spent on Facebook was predicted by higher levels of loneliness. Satisfaction with life predicted online sociability, and privacy concerns were predicted by increased loneliness. Implications and limitations of the findings are discussed, as well as avenues for future research. |
