Information acts an important role in making decisions which is common in daily lives. Multimedia based local information, a kind of information, assists people in city planning, travelling, etc. This dissertation investigates how to embed non traditional geographical information, i.e. multimedia files, to web based maps by developing a web based multimedia online map system. The system, which is produced using HTML, JavaScript, Perl and SQL, enables users to upload, manage and query multimedia records as well as text records regarding to the Edinburgh region. Besides, online maps are offered in query section to assist users to define the geographical range for a single query. Finally, the conclusion, as well as the evaluation of the system, is provided. The evaluation unveils that ambiguous information could be revealed by the multimedia records in the system which is a disadvantage. Based on the evaluation, I advice that further work could focus on the elimination of such ambiguity.
