Burkholdena Pseudomaller, เชื้อ Gram-negative bacillus ที่พบในดินและน้ำ เป็นเชื้อก่อโรค melioidosis ทั้งในคนและสัตว์ โดยเฉพาะในคนที่มีปัจจัยเสี่ยงเช่นเป็นโรคเบาหวาน การศึกษานี้ได้ทำการตรวจหาหารแสดงออกของ IL-17 ทั้งในระดับ mRNA และโปรตีน ใน peppheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) จากผู้ป่วยเบาหวานจำนวน 10 ราย และในคนปรกติจำนวน 10 ราย ซึ่งนำมากระตุ้นด้วยเชื้อ B.pseudomallei ผลการทดลองพบว่าเชื้อนี้สามารถกระตุ้นให้มีการแสดงของออก IL-17 mRNA และโปรตีน PBMC ได้จริง และยังพบว่ากลุ่มผู้ป่วยเบาหวานมีการแสดงออกของ IL-17 น้อยกว่ากลุ่มคนปรกติอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (p<0.05) ข้อมูลที่ได้นี้สนับสนุนว่าโรค melioidosis พบได้บ่อยและรุนแรงในผู้ที่เป็นโรคเบาหวาน Burkholdena pseudomaller, a Gram-negative bacilius found in soil and water is a causation agent of a potentrally tatal disease known as melioidosis. The disease primanly occurs in man and animals in endemic areas of intection particularly in those with high ask factor like diabetes mellitus. The present study was performed to investigate IL-17 mRNA and protein expression by penpheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from 10 drabetic patients and compared with those from 10 healthy blood donors in response to stimulation by B.pseudamaller. The results showed that the IL-17 response to PBMC in diabelies was significantly lower (0-0.05) compared with those from noemal. The data obtained support the clinical observations that melioidom more common and more severe in patients with diabeles mellilus
