The environmental impact of crude palm oil (CPO) production from selected factory using life cycle assessment (LCA) approach was studied. The CPO production was selected to analyze the environmental burdens including oil palm plantation in the southern part of Thailand. In this study, the information on the energy consumption, emissions and environmental impacts caused by the production of CPO was generated. This research was aimed to evaluate the carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-eq) in CPO production and to estimate the carbon dioxide equivalent if the biogas system was constructed as a scenario. Then if the greenhouse gases (GHGs) were decreased more than 10 percents, the factory may apply for Thailand carbon reduction label. Results showed that 1 ton of CPO generated 1,009 kgCO2-eq without biogas system and 698 kgCO2-eq with biogas system. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2009.
