Vinylic phosphonates have been prepared from vinylic halides and copper (I) halide-phosphite commplexes at moderate temperature (130-132 C). The yields from these reactions are ranging from 16 to 25%. Vinylic chlorides formerly considered unreactive toward copper (I) chloride complexes., successfully react with these reagents in the presence of potassium iodide to afford vinylic phosphonates. The reactions could be accomplished by either mixing chloride reagents, the complexes, and potassium iodide or by a two-stepped procedure. The second method was carred out by reactions between vinylic chlorides and potsassiumiodide giving vinyliciodides. After their purification, the iodide reagents reactin the usual way with copper (I) chloride complexes to afford vinylic phosphonates. On the other hand, reactions between vinylic bromides or vinylic iodides and copper (I) iodide complexes were also considered. Since all these mehods give rather poor yields, further improvement is needed and still in progress.
