The thesis was set out to probe certain issues related to learning achievement of students prior to and after lessons on the topic "Our Community" taught by forecasting techniques. Altogether, 30 Mathayom Suksa 1 students of Phang Faung School, the Office of Chiang Dao District Primary Education, Chiang Mai Province, were chosen as sampled subjects. The Study was conducted during the second semester of the 1997 academic year. Study instruments comprised 1) Five teaching plans for 15 periods, 50 minutes each

2) a 35-item learning achievement test

3) 1 10 item students behavior observation form

and 4) a 10-item students opinions survey form. Collected data were subsequently analyzed using percentage, average, mean, standard deviation and t-test. Finding were as follows: 1. Students learning achievement after the forecasting technique-based instruction was significantly higher than that prior to such instruction at the .01 level. 2. Students behavior while studying and participating in forecasting techniques-based instruction was rated in the "most satisfactory" category. 3. The majority of students responded very positively to instruction of this type.
