The objective of this study was to find out the factors which affect usage of "Ya Chud" of people in rural area concerning drug-use patterns, thought, belief and perception about :Ya Chud", including distribution and drug availibility, socio-ecnomic status, health behavior of the subjects and health service access. Qualitative methods were used. The purposive sampling method wasused, specific for people who use "Ya Chud" to cure their illnesses. The data was collected from 11 people by informal interviewing using leading questions, observation and tape recorder. Details about the community were received from village leaders and health volunteers. The study showed that affecting usage of "Ya Chud" were the easiness and convenience of usage, including confidence and satisfication in the efficacy of "Ya Chud". Also they had about the good qualities of "Ya Chud" more than the adverse effects from neighbours, relatives and their past experiences. "Ya Chud" was easy to buy from the stores in village and the price was cheap and appropiate to their income. For these reasons and the fact that they did not have easy acces to local health services, because of the complexity of the services and the volume of patients served. The rural people optimisted to use "Ya Chud" to cure their illnesses. To deal with this , we must provide health education using simple language and give details clearly so that people can understandmore easily. Advice about correct health behavior and self medication to all groups of people in society are also neccessary.
