This experimental study compares sourcecredibility which can be attributed to the formalfeatures of the newspaper and the computer. Inaddition, it examines whether readers' evaluation ofnon-media related-characteristics of the computer andtheir perception of the computer as an actor as opposedto a tool affect their perception of source credibilityin any way. Two groups of subjects were asked to read thesame message either from a newspaper or a computerbefore rating source credibility of their assignedmedia. Results indicated that the readers of thecomputer as a whole rated their source more crediblethan the readers of the newspaper. However, thedifference was larger in the group that perceive thecomputer more positively than the group that perceivethe computer less positively. The readers' perceptionof the computer as an actor or as a tool did not affecttheir perception of source credibility.
