The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is aiming to the goal of regional economic integration by 2015. AEC envisages the following key characteristics: a highly competitive economic region, a region of equitable economic development, and a region fully integrated into the global economy. The logistics industry is one of the services in which equity participation in ASEAN countries is set to change under the AEC. AEC also eliminates tariffs in trade and services, as well as the free movement of skilled labour, capital, and a streamlined customs. As a result, Thai companies must be aware of these new opportunities and prepared to meet inherent challenges to expand their businesses into other ASEAN countries. Therefore, this research aims to study and evaluate logistics and investment potentials to propose proactive strategies for Thai entrepreneurs in ASEAN Economic Community and China Free Trade Area. The research methodology comprises of 5 phases; starting from studying all related secondary data to logistics industry in ASEAN, evaluating 200 Thai logistics companies on how well they plan and deliver their current strategies, surveying logistics infrastructure and carrying out in-depth interviews with practitioners in logistics field in ASEAN countries and China, assessing the investment potential of each country, and presenting the recommendation of proactive strategies for Thai entrepreneurs and related supporting organization. This research provides several results in different dimensions such as the general view of each country in infrastructure, labor, education, trade and investment and potential industries in each ASEAN countries. This research also proposes the categorization of the countries into five groups in the perspectives of logistics efficiency and investment opportunity: group 1, High Efficiency and High Opportunity, includes Singapore; group 2, Medium Efficiency and Medium Opportunity, includes China; group 3, Medium Efficiency and High Opportunity, includes Thailand and Malaysia; group 4, Low Efficiency and Medium Opportunity, includes Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam; and group 5, Low Efficiency and Low Opportunity, includes Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. To successfully invest in each categorized group requires different strategy, this research proposes proactive strategies for Thai entrepreneurs to take advantage from AEC and FTA Thai-China.
