This research studied a community debt management model in a rural village using qualitative research, quantitative research, and participatory action research. Data were collected in the village of Baan Noonkeng, Kum Khang sub-district in the Warinchamrab district of Ubon Ratchathani province by questionnaire surveys, interviews, group interviews, observations, stage arguments, and group activities. Quantitative data were analyzed by basic statistical analysis and qualitative data by reasoning and descriptive analysis. Data validity was established by triangulation and the data were presented to the data resource group. Results revealed debt problems that arose from internal and external financial institute loans. Most of the population borrowed money for living expenses, agricultural investments, children’s educational expenses, and property purchases. High expenses were the cause of community debt, the highest being living expenses, paying debts to the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, and petrol. In an attempt to solve these community debt problems, the study suggested the use of 5 strategies, recording household accounts, visiting and learning from best practice communities, increasing income, decreasing expenses, and saving. The study helped the community to be more aware of its debt problems and to try to decrease its expenses, earn more income, and save. The study also helped to initiate collaborative work between the community team leader and the population of Baan Noonkeng to develop the village.
