| บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย | : | The present research analysed how the media, specifically newspaper articles, construct sexual violence towards women, with the aim of investigating why cultural misconceptions about rape persist. Language use in the articles is examined using discursive psychology, and three constructions were closely analysed: the rapist, the rape, and the woman, each containing several themes and descriptive features, with a basis in historical rape myths. Findings suggested that these constructions are mainly used to manage accountability, maintain a narrow definition of rape, and attribute responsibility. The implications for wider society’s cultural conceptions are observed, and a secondary commentary on how these constructions have progressed since early second wave feminism is provided. |
